WHO WE ARE

It is said, Necessity is the Mother of Invention.

West Georgia Woodturners (WGW) was born out of necessity.  Stacy Williams was trying to find a club to join that was nearby.  He found a couple of clubs but the drive time made it almost prohibitive considering his work schedule.  After visiting one club a couple of times Stacy’s wife suggested if he couldn’t find one closer to home maybe he should consider creating a club.  The thought stuck and after several more visits to distant clubs, Stacy decided to explore his wife’s idea.  Soliciting the advice of several people including an instructor at a local woodworking supply store, Stacy found the encouragement was overwhelming from everybody.

Stacy and the instructor he met joined forces and started gathering information on how to start a local club of novice to expert woodturners.  The idea grew faster than expected so they finally made the move to start looking for people who would be interested in becoming members of the club.  Much to their surprise, the enthusiasm was more than they anticipated.

The West Georgia Woodturners club was established in April 2018 and has grown rapidly over a relatively short period of time.  The club also became a chapter of the American Association of Woodturners.  The new club meets once a month to do projects and have demonstrations from well-known experts in the area.  The goal is to become more involved in the community and with the local educators as well as technical schools.
